It is time to Shelter and protect your vehicle's and keep them looking good. If your vehicle has to set outside unprotected, you're at risk. April shows bring those large thunderstorms with that damaging hail.
With over three decades of experience in the construction industry, Carports & Patio Covers of Oklahoma has become a trusted name in the field of construction. Our team of experts has the knowledge, skills, and expertise to handle any project, big or small. We have completed numerous projects ranging from residential homes to commercial buildings, and our clients can attest to our commitment to quality and excellence. When it comes to carports, we are your local trusted builder contractors that has been building for well over three decades in and around the OKC and the surrounding region. We don't just one type of carport using one type of building materials. We build using several different types of materials including but not limited to, Wood, Steel, Aluminum, SIPs and sometimes we combine different building materials.
We gotcha covered!
The Spring / Summer / Fall are storms seasons on the Southern Plains which has some really unique weather conditions. Besides our sizzling hot summer seasons that can bake the finish off of your vehicles. We can get really strong and severe or an outright wicked and wild thunderstorm that can produce heavy rains, large hail, abnormally high and very damaging winds drafts and even tornados. As of matter fact Oklahoma has more tornados per square mile than any other State.
When the winds come swiping down the southern plains, Oklahoma's weather is not like any other place on earth! Last year we didn't very many tornadoes like we normal do, but we received a lot of hail. The weather people are calling 2021 "The year of the Hail" and 2022 the year of the drought. 2023 It has been kind of a normal year but with three days of a tornado out-brakes. Who know what we are going to get in 2024? We already seen the Gorilla hail hit in parts of KS, MO and locally Ada, OK Has had 5.25-inch huge hail already this season and in March. When building any type of outdoor canopy structure with our unique Oklahoma weather conditions, high winds and live loads must be taken into consideration.
Any and all of the building material has their own unique limitations of what they should be used for and that should not be surpassed. There are various deferent thicknesses and types of building materials used to construct anyone building structure depending on the structure's unique applications.
The taller a canopy structures might be the more upload lifts wind drafts the structure is going to get under the canopy structure and it wants to take flight up in the air or they just be torn apart.
The larger canopy frame must be built to withstand these unique weather conditions. Most parts of the country might see 35-mph wind loads so their product may not work very well in our weather conditions. Here we might see 85 -100 plus mph winds loads all the time.
That is why we always say! What works in one part of the country, may not work around here because they may not see all kinds of higher wind loads that those structures are not built for. That is why we tell people not to use any prefabricated kits you might see at the big box stores. most of them come from China and overseas, and most are not built to our building standards. Get protected with a safe and secure well-built perinate canopy structure.
Same goes for the larger patio covers structures. The wider and or the longer the open spins might be the larger and stronger the poles and the cross beams must be.
Do not scamp out on the poles and beams. The frame is what holds the entire structure up! The larger pole and beams are the higher with structure can withstand higher weather eliminates. It does not matter what type of canopy top the structure has on it.
The frame structure is what does all of the heavy lifting. As framers we like to say all starts with the frame!
A carport is no longer just a luxury item, it is a necessity to protect your vehicle investments!
Be prepared and shelter your vehicles!
Carports and Patio Covers of Oklahoma builds only permanent type of carport structures that is a great way to protect your vehicles and family. Whether it be a car, truck, boat, RV, motor bike, trailer, farm or construction equipment or any other valuable equipment. In some cases, carports may be used as storage. All of our carports and patio covers are custom built to order to protect your family or vehicle investments from rain, hail, snow, ice and blistering heat as well as protection for the stuff that might be coming from the trees.
If your vehicles are currently stored outside and is exposed to the weather elements, we suggest investigating the possibility of purchasing a custom built perinate carport canopy structure to protect your valuable vehicle investments.
Get prepared and shelter your valuable vehicles under new carport structure. Don't let Mother Nature damage or wreak your vehicle(s), machinery or other investment assets. Our vehicles cost a lot more and they are normally our second most valuable investments that we make. Our vehicles are not getting any cheaper so get prepared and protect your vehicle's.
Your vehicle(s) or RVs is something that probably took you a long time to save up to purchase. In fact, you may still be paying for them and there would be nothing worse than having it damage due to just one of our hailstorms. We all want to keep our vehicle(s) in tip-top shape to resell them at the highest price possible.
Most of the people that we build for say they should have done it sooner than they did.
If you own a vehicle but don't have a garage to put it in, we know you want more. Not only will you be leaving your car out in the rain, but standing in the sun for a prolonged period of time can also lead to the fading and discoloration of the paint. Besides that, having your car sitting under the sun for long periods of time can also result in premature wear and tear of your vehicle(s).
Carports can pay for themselves several times over their lifespan. Carports will pay for themselves with just one hailstorm and keep on doing their job for numerous years to come after that. Modern carport designs often feature sleek lines, contemporary designs materials, and with finishes to enhance their overall aesthetic appeal. We build all types, shapes and sizes out of several different building materials all designed to add value to your property. We work hard to educate our customers how a carport pays for itself with your ROI (return on investment) being really high. If just one of your vehicles was to get damaged what happens after your insurance pays to have it repaired.
1. Customer must pay the insurance deductible.
2. Vehicle title gets marked as being damaged and devalues your vehicle's investment.
3. Vehicles value plumets as you got a wholesale valued vehicle not a frontline valued vehicle and more than likely sold to a wholesale auto buyer instead of being resold by that auto dealer. They are just going to wholesale the damaged vehicle off and not keep the car and resale it themselves. So, the vehicles owners take the huge loss as opposed to a vehicle that hasn't been damaged.
A well-built only a permanent type of canopy structure is a terrific way to shelter from the sun or to protect your valuable toys such as cars, truck, RV, boat motorcycle or tractor from the weather elements that can damage your valuable and affect its overall value. Permanent carports structures - are built to last and are intended to be a permanent fixture on your property. A permanent type of carports are typically more durable than any type of portable or temporary carport. They are designed to withstand harsh weather conditions and can last for many more years. Most municipalities only want a more permanent type of carport build solution to be built as opposed to any portable or a temporary carport build.
Some use carport canopies as an extension of their garage, so they don't have to put their vehicles inside of a crapped hard to get in or out of garage. Our vehicles are not getting any cheaper so we must keep them in the best tip top condition that we can so we can keep them looking good and keep them longer. When we say a permeant type of structure, we mean one that is not a temporary or a portable or movable type of structure that you see for sale all over the internet. In Oklahoma we get some strong storms that can high wind gusts that can stress any structure.
When building any type of outdoor canopy structure with our unique Oklahoma weather conditions, high winds and snow and Ice loads must be taken into consideration.

A large part of our business is in the residential sector. We focus on the importance of creating a positive, environmentally responsible and functional investment. Commercial there is normally a design and specification layout for us to follow. In Residential it is a whole different world then commercial. We have to work with the customer to see what they are wanting to build and where they would like it to be located on their property. There are setbacks and property lines that must be taking into consideration before building any type of structure. I am asked all the time can I build up to the property line and the answer is NO. Most of the local municipalities have a 5 ft setback from the sides of the property to be legal.
By being trustworthy and up front in every way all the time has served us well. We stand by the golden rule within our community that we live and work within. We are a team of efficient and innovation skilled professionals that believe that a good reputation that we have earned will keep us going in the long haul.
It is time to get your Vehicles protected from the weather. Most people that we build for say they should of build years a go!
Building Permit Services -
Today a building permit is needed to build a fence. To acquire a building permit is much more complicated than yester-year. We used to be able to pull up to City Hall and walk up to the counter then talk to the clerk and walk out with a building permit with a few short minutes.
Today getting a required Carport build permits in most local multispecies are much more complicated and technical then it ever used to ever be. We have to have to make a submittal package all necessary building material documents and drawings and leave the submittals for a plan review which normally takes a couple of days or so. So, we have to charge for these services which can take more time than it takes to build some projects. Different municipalities require build requirements when building a carport.
We can provide these additional services with additional charges for our customers you they will not have to spend time going back and forth with the local code enforcement and building departments. You can save money by avoiding costly mistakes at the municipality level. We are able to meet your needs for the building permit services on you behave that a lot of the municipalities require today. The city requirements and plan reviews will determine how any structure may be built. It is knowing how to navigate the laws and regulations property and their property set-back rules, drawings and the time that it takes just to that it does take to secure the building permits sometime takes longer than most people think.
Additional service fees are bid on as needed bases: Other trade's professional services such as architectural or engineering, electrical service or other trade professionals, building permit applications and research/discovery fees are bid on an as needed base. Additional services such as removal of any existing structure and/or dumpster fees and any haul off fees, disposal fees may need to be added to any bid proposal on as needed bases with additional fees or their additional service charges.
Structural Insulated Panels = (SIPs) These SIPs are far superior in the thermal blocking and reflecting any heat transfer through the building materials in the heat of the hot summer season!
They were originally designed and built for the Cold Storage and the Sunroom industries. They have been used for several years and have been proven to be a very strong roof and wall panels that can offer you the ultimate solid roof top and/or wall's building materials. They offer the industry best R value or thermal value even over the traditional stick framing with good installation or any other type of building materials. The SIP panels have evolved into more of the modern-day building material in today's home building all in the name of its energy efficiency. These panels add thermal value and can stop much of the heat infiltration that we get from most all other building materials .
These SIP panels are available with all types of various different claddings such as Aluminum, Steel and OSB plywood and various different thicknesses. We invite you to do your own research into the best building material for any type of Sunroom, Screen Room or Patio cover to date. It can make the difference between using the area and not using it because it is too hot. It is essential when building any Screen Room or Sunroom application.
ROLLED FORMED pans are custom rolled from various different larflat stock coil which are available in various thicknesses and different colors. Flat stock coils are available in both aluminum and steel metals. NOTE: Not all fabricated rolled formed pans are the very same. We also offer all types of canopy trim option.
FULL BOXED FRAME -Three types of framing steel. Red oxide premiered coated steel that is ready for its final painting. Or Galvanized coated steel which is a silver outdoor weather coating. The newer third option is for a powered coated steel frame option that is now available in a coal black color option.
Wood - Stick or timber framing run deep within our roots and we are old framers from way back. All outdoor wooden product has to be protected so they won't be affected by moisture and decay faster as well as being protected from bugs such as termites.
When using wood within an outdoor environment you have to be commented to protecting and preserving the wood building products from the weather or the wood is going to turn a dull gray color and not look very good within a just a few (2-3) seasons. We call it wood or weather rot. When wood is used within an outdoor application it is always suggested that we use a premium wood that performs better within an outdoor application such as a Cedar or a Redwood. Those types of woods are considered to be a premium cost wood product and just cost more the standard white pine stick framing members that the framing members are normally going to be covered up with wall or roofing cladding materials. Using the premium woods does have a higher overall building cost.
There are always additional services such as roofing and painting services that have to consider when using any wood products. Wood has a "limited lifespan, especially when used within an outdoor use application.
The facts are we always use a whole lot more sticks and larger timber while framing the same type of open span outdoor structure as we do use as a metal product. As much a 4x times more wood products are needed to safely cover the same open span as a metal product. Using wood there has to be at least 3-4 time more roof pitch when using the wood product over using metal products.
Within In an add-on type of structure applications that ties into the existing structure we must be sure that that the existing structure is designed or engineered to handle any additional structure and that may require to add to the structure. Additional professional architectural services may be needed. With that being said there is nothing that looks like and the smell like a nice cedar wood framed structure and some just prefer the rustic look of a nice wood framed structure.
LVL = Laminated Veneer Lumber which is stronger than wood and mainly used as beam support for longer open spans depending on the structure application. These beams are available in various different sizes.
Combination building materials carports and patio covers. Wood covered structures.
These types of carports looks like it is wood, but it isn't. It is a stronger metal structure that is covered with cedar wood trim. It has oversized 6x6 cedar wood poles. The canopy top is rolled formed Sheetmetal steel with a side rake trim and drip edge on it. We also build combination patio covers that might be a solid type of canopy cover with a mixed form of lattice work with it. Today we blur the lines and can build almost anything.
Any and all of the building materials have their own limits to how they should be safely used to cover the canopy open span area or between any structure poles. If you exceed the building materials limits the structure could fail while under stress which normally comes during a server weather event.
The stress of any structure can come from many forms but normally come from wind, snow. earthquake or shafting of the dirt soil.
Live loads refer to the total weight of the structure.
Snow loads refers to the amount of "snow and ice" weight per sq ft (PSF) that a building's roof is able to support.
Wind loads refer to the amount of force the winds put on any type of structure and in a canopy type of application we talk about up-drafts or down-drafts winds.
When dealing with a larger clear open span structure without the use of any center poles you must use building materials that are engineered or designed for that purpose which it is intended. Larger wood beam or manufactured LDL beam's
The larger the canopy structure the larger and heavier the beams and poles must be as that is what is doing the heavy lifting of the whole structure.
Never scrimp out on the poles that is what holds the structure up. All post must attached to a concrete pads surface or set into a 2-ft deep concrete pear. You can never have all of the legs that are surface mounted. Core drilling a concrete pad might have be an option for a more secure pole mounting application.
Carports and Patio Cover of Oklahoma Now offers and painted coated steel framing option for all of our carports and patio covers and deck framing options. Want to build something for your employees and protected the steel framing members from rusting? This is a commercial

Our customer Ms. Shannon sent us this photo on the morning after a smaller tornado hit the school on Norman St, in Moore, OK. She was thanking us for building a quality carport that withstood the tornado and some very high winds that literally blew the roof off the house and blew out the windows on Just look at the house that is next door!
The house was a total loss and it had to be demolished. Our carport canopy had survived the very high wind loads that were right next door. This rolled formed carport canopy was built to replace an older one that was damaged previously. We submitted our building plans and project drawing to the City of Moore and the building inspector came back and asked us to upgrade the carports cross beams from a standard 7"-inch cross beams to a larger 10"-inch beams.
The engineering on this Flat-pan type of carport structure would go from 90 mph wind loads using the standard 7-inch aluminum beams. When we went to get the building permit the building code inspector suggested we use the larger upgraded 10-inch extruded aluminum beams. We all agreed to build the carport canopy structure using the larger cross beams for additional costs and we got the building permits issued for this project to be installed. About a year later a tornado hit this area and the proof is in the picture posted. In the picture above the carport, we built has larger 10-inch high 1/8-inch-thick extruded aluminum beams that was asked for by the City of Moore building inspector at the time it was built to obtain a required carport building permit.
The POLES and the BEAMS are what does all of the heavy lifting. In a carports or patio cover structure how do build for stronger wind and snow loads? Use heavier poles and beams and make sure that the poles are in the ground in a good footings. That is where all of the wind and snow loads rating come from. Not the top canopy covering. Don't scamp on the poles or the beams on any structure!
Building codes are a minimum building standard and different municipalities have different building standards. Any customer may build above any higher standard building code requirements.
The house next door was a total loss and had to be taken down and replaced with a new one.
Building codes requirements are the minimum building requirements to meet which are currently 2015 IBC (International building codes) of 90 mph in OKC. When the updated newer codes are adopted for the 2018 IBC that will be raised to 115 mph.
You have to build for the winds in Oklahoma.
Highest straight line wind gust in February 111mph in Hobert just last year. Highest wind gust ever recorded in Oklahoma was 151 mph in 2011 during the El-Reno - Piedmont tornado event.
Portable - Able to be moved - especially because of lighter weight.
Temporary - Lasting for only a limited time.
Normally made of light weight tubing building materials - normal sold by roadside vendors and all over the internet.
We build all types of carports, awnings, arbors, pergolas, porches, pavilions, sunrooms and screen rooms and more.
